Join us at Logboat Brewery! Meet-up with fellow birders while making plans to take part in Birding Big Day on Saturday May 10. And there will be pizza!

As the thinking goes, it would be great:

  • to get lots of folks out looking at (& listening to) birds on Saturday May 10, Birding Big Day.
  • to make connections between birders with varying skill levels so they can bird together.
  • to spread out our efforts in a variety of places, at various times, and potentially through various modes of travel (hiking, biking, vehicle).
  • for this to self-organize, in a fun way, live and in person, without a million emails!

So the idea of a social and planning session came together, and Logboat Brewery seemed a good community gathering space to make this happen. There will be a food truck with wood-fired pizza, and CAS will provide pizza to participants! (It’s also fine to bring other food for yourself, if you prefer, but we’re not planning a potluck to keep logistics simple and circumvent a need for dishes.)

From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., we’ll encourage participants to find birding buddies and make plans for Birding Big Day. Feel free to show up early or stay late for additional socialization.

All skill levels are welcome, but beginning birders are encouraged to get some practice in advance, for example by attending other field trips before Birding Big Day.

RSVP is appreciated for planning but not required; drop an email to Eric & Joanna (birds@ozarkoutsider.com).

If you want to partner up with others on Birding Big Day but cannot attend the planning session, there are a couple of other options. If you’re a Facebook user, you may be able to make connections through the CAS Facebook page. Alternatively, please email Eric & Joanna with the following info and we’ll try to get you matched up with other birders:

  • Desired outing duration
  • Time of day constraints/preferences
  • Location constraints/preferences, if any
  • Mode-of-travel preferences (hike, bike, drive), if any
  • Self-described skill level
  • Would you prefer to be a mentor, a mentee, or to bird with folks of a similar skill level?
  • Any other thoughts/preferences

Disclaimer: Though CAS is encouraging folks to bird together, CAS does not view the outings on Birding Big Day as official CAS-sponsored events from a liability perspective.
