Happy almost spring! We’ve almost made it out of this very cold winter. In no time, migrants will be filling the woods with their songs, as they head north or stay with us to nest. This year winter seemed to linger, didn’t she?

Have you heard the phrase “standing on the shoulders of giants”? I know I brag all the time that CAS has a lot going on–because that is true! Take a minute to read Allison Vaughan’s article about a well-deserved recognition that we received this past month—CFM Conservation Organization of the Year! This award comes because of the hard work of so many people who care about birds, the earth and making it a better place.  Congratulations to those who’ve worked on our properties, attended/led a field trip, attended a meeting, or given any of your time to help further our mission. Well done! A big shout-out and thank you to Bill Mees and Allison Vaughan for writing our nomination.

I hope you got to attend our presentation this past month on the One Health project north of town on the Alspaugh property. We all know that spending time in nature and caring for nature is good for us. It was an inspiring talk.

This month join us as we hear from Isaac Breuer as he tells us about his journey developing the land around and on the A.L. Gustin golf course with an eye to planting native. Good for the environment and good for the budget. It will be inspiring to hear of the work he did far ahead of his time. Come and be inspired for the work you can do in your yard.

I hope to see you at our general meeting or on one of the many planned field trips.

Until then…happy birding!
