Celebrate eBird’s October Big Day by going birding on Saturday, October 11, 2025!

Bird anywhere you like: in your backyard, in a nature area, even in a parking lot; wherever you are, there are probably birds! This year has brought an irruption (not an eruption!) of Red-breasted Nuthatches, so listen and watch for those, along with many other migrants that are on the move.

The Grand River Audubon Society will be hosting their annual Big Sit at Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Here’s the announcement for this year’s event on MOBIRDS, and a more in-depth description about it from last year’s CAS carpool trip to the event.

No official CAS trip (carpool or local) is planned for Big Day this year. Feel free to bird on your own, with friends, and/or during a trip to the Big Sit or other destinations. You can use the Merlin app to help with identification of bird sounds, though please always maintain a healthy skepticism with regard to Merlin’s results; it is amazing technology, but it does make errors.

Contribute to citizen science by submitting your Global Big Day bird observations to eBird. Happy birding!
