Wild Haven workday, Sunday June 13, 9 AM-noon

This is the last workday at Wild Haven before we take a summer break.

Planned tasks:

  • Remove fencing materials and railroad ties from along the new trail around the east pond.
  • Demolish and fill in the older and more decrepit of the two outhouses.
  • Haul debris from these tasks to a dumpster.
  • Burn autumn olive brush files that are blocking the trail behind the picnic shelter.
  • Work on extending the East pond trail across O’Rear Rd to make a loop with the orange trail.

What to bring:

  • Wear boots and gloves. For tending fires, garden rakes are helpful and 5 gallon buckets with lids will be needed to haul water.
  • For trail work, helpful tools include chainsaws, loppers, pruning saws, and heavy duty weed whackers.

Directions:

  • Take Route B north from US 63 (near Tractor Supply Co). Follow B until you cross the RR tracks, then turn right on Brown Station Road. Continue on Brown Station Rd past the first stop sign (Route HH), then take the next right onto O’Rear Road. After you pass Sheridan Rd (~1.5 mi), look for an entrance sign, address marker (6900 E. O’Rear Rd), parking area, and picnic shelter on the right.

Parking:

Park in the new parking area or on the street; we probably won’t be able to park inside the East gate because it will be blocked by the dumpster.
