Board of Directors Meeting

April 17, 2024

Meeting conducted at Boone Electric Cooperative

Present: Lori Turner, Eric Wood, Judy Lincoln, Shelby Thomas, Greg Leonard, Jim Gast, John Besser, Reed Gerdes, Eric Seaman, Louise Flenner, Lottie Bushmann

Time called to order: 6:04 p.m.

Previous minutes:

Judy Lincoln moves to accept the March 2024 minutes as written. Greg Leonard seconds the approval of the minutes. Motion carries.

Nature Areas:

John Besser planted some shrubs to provide a screen to the new outhouse at Wild Haven.

Communications:

Have Chat articles to Allison by April 26.

Lori Turner is writing a review for BirdMan Mel’s new book on constructing birdhouses. She reports the book is very interesting and thorough.

Membership:

Shelby Thomas reports we are up to 101 members.

Field Trips:

Lottie Bushmann had 18 people attend the First Friday field trip. Saw about 39 birds.

Joe Mosley led a field trip at Rudolf Bennitt CA on the First Saturday field trip.

Judy Lincoln will lead a field trip to Rocky Fork to see Chuck-will-Widow in May

John Besser is helping lead a field trip at Kiwanis Park at 7:00 a.m. on May 8.

Lottie is leading a field trip with homeschoolers on May 2 at 9:00 a.m.at 3M.

Programs:

The CAS annual picnic will be held at Wild Haven on May 19 and starts at 3:00 p.m. with a birding walk. It is a potluck. We expect to eat at 6:00 p.m.

Education:

The annual Missouri River Relief program for children will be held at Cooper’s Landing in June. Lottie Bushmann will attend to help.

All 3 teachers are signed up for Hog Island.

Treasurer’s Report:

Eric Seaman reports on the budget for next year.

Jim Gast moves we approve the budget, John Besser seconds it. Motion carries.

New Business:

Discussion about giving something to  presenters who volunteer to give presentations for the CAS meetings. No decision has been made at this time.

Lottie Bushmann and Lori Turner met with DJ Langefels, engagement manager for the Upper Mississippi region, outreach director of National Audubon Society for three State area,  Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri. These meetings help local chapters and National Audubon share information.

Judy Lincoln moves to adjourn the meeting, Jim Gast seconds it. Motion carries.
