Columbia Audubon Society and Missouri Conservation Corps and are organizing a cooperative honeysuckle removal event on Saturday, March 21st, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Columbia Audubon Nature Sanctuary (CANS), 3607 Bray Ave. Volunteers will be pulling and cutting invasive honeysuckle from this 28-acre nature preserve. By holding this event early in the season, we hope to be able to identify small honeysuckle seedlings that are easy to remove by hand.  Larger plants  will be cut and the stumps treated with herbicide.
Participants are asked to park on the street near the intersection of Bray Ave and Cunningham Rd, and to join the group at the main entrance to CANS at the North End of Cunningham Rd..
Missouri Conservation Corps will provide tools, training, and gloves for this event. Columbia Audubon Society will provide pizza, beverages and a portable toilet.  Volunteers will need to wear sturdy footwear, dress for the weather, and bring a water bottle.
Audubon volunteers should contact John Besser (jbesser1@gmail.com) or Bill Mees (jandbmees@mchsi.com) so we can know how much food and drink we will need.
