WildHaven Nature Sanctuary

1:30pm-5:00pm

We will try again to prepare fire lines at Wild Haven for a prescribed burn planned for later this fall. We will gather on Sunday at the picnic shelter 6900 E. O’Rear Road, starting at 1:30 PM. One of the leaders will remain at the shelter until at least 2 PM to meet late arrivals. Both gates will be open for parking. We will work no later than 5 PM, and individuals can leave sooner if necessary.

We will clear fire lines to allow crews to easily monitor the prescribed burns and to prevent fire from spreading outside the designated area. We will need to cut some standing snags and fallen logs, but most of the work will be dragging logs and woody debris away from the fire line.  Other tasks will include raking around standing dead trees and cutting small woody stems. Useful tools will include chainsaws, weed whackers, leaf blowers, and hand tools such as rakes, loppers and pruning saws. Wear sturdy footwear, work gloves, and eye and ear protection (if using power tools).
